27 Weeks Update

Week 27 sonogram baby b

Week 27 sonogram of Baby B

Our OB visit this week went great!  She congratulated us to making it 27 weeks, which is a huge mile-marker for risk of complications, and she increased our doc visits to every 2 weeks rather than weekly.   Baby A measured at 2 lbs, while Baby B came in at 2 lbs 4 oz.  It’s hard to believe that I’m carrying 4 lbs of babies, but then again, I actually feel like it!  (I’ve gained 32 lbs so far.)

Bed Rest. While risk is reduced, we’re still not out of the weeds.  My cervix hangs in there around 2.5-2.7 cm, so same bed rest, and same Procardia pill every 3 hours to stabilize contractions.  It’s hard to believe, I’ve been on BR for 44 days.

Gestational Diabetes.  On the other hand, I’ve been diagnosed with gestational diabetesYikes, was as my first response, but it’s actually not that bad.  A great local company OB Solutions, came to my house where a nurse and dietician educated me on the ABCs of how to manage my blood sugar.

I have to take my blood sugar 4 times a day., I’m limited to 45 grams of carbohydrates per meal, and have to eat every 2 hours.  Not a problem, I was already eating that often!  I use calorieking to track the number of carbs per meal, and my handy iPhone to time when to take my blood sugar. The hardest part is pricking my finger. Once I got the courage to do that first stick, it was easy.

That’s all for now. It’s time to take my post-dinner glucose test.
