During our week 25 sonogram we watched Baby Girl B yawn twice in a row. As my babies get ready to take their first fresh breaths of life, I am reminded the Lord is the almighty giver of life. Scripture tells us the hand of the Lord is the life of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind (Job 12:9-10).
At week 25 most babies are around 1 ½ pounds in weight. Their lungs are getting ready for breathing, although they have weeks to go before their lungs fully mature. The babies nostrils, which were once closed, are now beginning to open up.*
Their little vocal cords are now functional and can even trigger a small case of hiccups. I have yet to experience a hiccup bout (but I can’t wait). Even now I can begin to pray that our children will grow up to speak words of life to build up those around them.
Lord, I pray that you are protecting our babies in my womb. I ask that you would firmly develop each baby’s lungs and get them ready to take their first breath when they arrive into this world. Lord, Your word says that You are the giver of life, so I ask for protection against any birth defects, and in the name of Jesus, against any preterm labor that would hinder their lungs’ development.
Lord, I ask that You would raise these children to praise You in their speech and manner. Even now Lord, prepare the way for them to speak life and love to those who hear their voices. Although they will be exposed to this world, I pray that You would protect and purify their hearts so that no unwholesome words would proceed from their mouths. Your word says that he who guards his mouth and tongue, keeps his soul from troubles. Therefore, I ask that these girls would be slow to anger and slow to speak (James 1:19). Father, most of all I pray that you would develop these children to glorify You in their breath and speech. Send them grace, so their talk would be seasoned with salt, and they would respond accordingly to each person they encounter. Lord, I ask that You would use them to demonstrate your perfect patience through their graceful love and words, and bring listeners to see Jesus and believe in Him for eternal life (1 Timothy 1:16).
The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life. Job 33:4
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Psalm 150:6
Let your speech always be with grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each person. Colossians 4:6
But speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects in to Him who is the head…Ephesians 4:15
Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but on such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear. Ephesians 4:29
